If you’ve never read a Dot & Jabber book, you need to go pick one up right now! Seriously though, our inspiration for this acorn playdough mat comes from the Dot & Jabber book, Great Acorn Mystery. My little ones had so much fun with this playdough mat that I think I’ll be making a few more alphabet playdough mats in the future.
In Dot & Jabber Great Acorn Mystery, two little mice detectives take off to find out where an acorn comes from. How did it end up with them? The pictures are adorable and the story is just as cute. If you click the picture below you can get the book from Amazon. (Affiliate Link)
It is a great book to go along with the letter A, to read in the fall, or to read over and over again because your child loves it so much.
Fall Leaf Playdough
To go along with the book, we cooked up some fall leaf colored playdough using the Classic Playdough Recipe from before. After it was made, I divided it into three parts and added yellow coloring paste to one, orange coloring paste to another, and made brown coloring paste by adding equal parts yellow and purple until I was happy with the color. Then of course the little ones wanted to add some glitter to it.
Of course, as I’m making this, I’m laughing because there is still 7 inches of snow on the ground outside. Fall is a long way away.
Letter A – Acorn Playdough Mat
I made up this acorn playdough mat to go along with the book. I wanted to include a letter A on it as well to help connect the letter A with ‘Acorn’.
You can download the free printable here –> Acorn Playdough Mat <– You can print it out and put it in a clear protective sleeve or even laminate it for reusing.
They had so much fun using the playdough mats over and over. Of course I had to get in on the fun as well.
